con su caddie Steve Williams la conquista del Masters de Augusta 2013 jugado en
Georgia, Estados Unidos, y frente al cordobés Ángel Cabrera, cuando embocó un putt
para birdie en el hoyo 18 al final de la cuarta ronda en un domingo 14 de abril
inolvidable e irrepetible ya que ganó en un desempate de infarto. Ángel Cabrera fue acompañado en el emotivo
recorrido por su hijo Angelito, un caddie que leyó con sabiduría de veterano,
cada golpe del espectacular desenlace.

EL PATO EN ACTUACIÓN SUPERLATIVA
La lluvia fue la constante desde el primer golpe de los líderes en el Masters de Augusta 2013. Y fue una buena señal para el hombre de Villa Allende que todo el mundo lo idolatró. Ángel "El Pato" Cabrera construyó una ventaja de dos golpes durante los primeros siete hoyos con dos birdies, cinco par y un total de 9 bajo el par. Mientras que el australiano Jason Day estuvo 7 bajo el par; a la vez que el otro australiano Adam Scott y el estadounidense Brandt Snedeker estaban expectantes un golpe más abajo y con una vuelta más adelante. Esa fue la constante de un domingo apasionante para el golf mundial. El cordobés subió 205 posiciones en el escalafón de la Asociación de Golfistas Profesionales (PGA): ahora está 69. A sus 43 años es el primer golfista argentino en haber ganado el Abierto de Estados Unidos (2007) y el Torneo de Maestros (2009). Con el bonaerense Roberto De Vicenzo ganador del Abierto Británico (1967 en Royal Liverpool, en Hoylake), son los únicos argentinos en haber ganar un “Major”. Jugó en el Equipo Internacional capitaneado por el sudafricano Gary Player (2005 y 2007) y el australiano Greg Norman (2009) que enfrentó al Equipo de Estados Unidos en la “Presidents Cup” de 2005, 2007 y 2009..

Después de hundir un putt para birdie en el segundo hoyo de desempate
para ganar el Masters 2013, Adam Scott recibió el “Blazer” verde (que ya lo
había vestido en 2009 Ángel Cabrera), por parte del campeón del Masters 2012,
Bubba Watson.
Así a sus 32 años se convirtió en el primer australiano en ganar el
Masters, tras larga data. Su victoria en el Masters fue también la primera
victoria del torneo más importante de su carrera, y la eliminación de su nombre
de la lista de los mejores jugadores de no ganar un “major”.
